Last year I finally retired and now I am a free and happy man! January was the beginning of my first and long journey to Asia; I spent 4.5 months traveling Viet Nam, Cambodia, Lao and Bhutan, half of the time on motorcycle, always “off of the beaten path”, using secondary or dirt roads, meeting very few tourists. I was always accompanied by a local guide, English is not the language of choice in this part of the world! I did more than 10,000 miles with no problems, Indochina and Bhutan are very safe environments, crime in these countries is unknown, all kind of personal fire arms are forbidden.
It has been an amazing experience, the discovery of a new world, new cultures, new traditions, new food, new people, it has been a very interesting voyage!
I visited remote villages in northern Viet Nam and Lao, close to the China border, I met people from distinct ethnic minorities, all wearing colorful traditional costumes, living different life styles, having different cultures, different customs, different religions, different races, different languages.
I will back to Indochina middle of July, the weather during the winter was not good in north Viet Nam, mostly overcast, light was always horrible and a lot of smoke in the sky, people in the countryside have the habit to burn the fields before the seeding season, the same practice is used in Central and South America.
It has been an unusual work, I hope you will enjoy it!
